How to Install Aussie
Tile Tray

Before Installation

Please read these installation instructions carefully before proceeding. Retain the guide for future reference. 

The responsibility lies on the installer for any title defects before installation. No claims will be accepted after installation.

NOTE: Responsibility lies on the installer for any tile to be installed as per the local building code. This guide is only for the optimal installation procedures.

No warranty on incorrect installations. 

To accommodate the waste position, some adjustments may be made regarding the floor positions and joints. 

This product can be installed on timber joists or a concrete slab. Joists and studs should be checked according to the work/application.

When adhering the tile tray to the substrate, it is recommended to use flexible adhesives. Referring to the manufacturer’s instructions and ensuring substrate level is necessary when applying adhesive or membrane.

NOTE: Cement-based adhesives SHOULD NOT be used to fix tiles directly to the tile tray 

Refer to warranty for full terms and conditions. Use the diamond blade to cut the tray and wear the PPE kit and ensure a well-ventilated area.

Installation on to Timber Joists

The tray should be supported around all edges with a maximum of 450mm centers and then the tile tray can be installed directly into joists. In this step, It is very necessary to ensure that the joists are level, unless this may distort the base and will affect the flow of water.

Apply a continuous bead to the underside of the tray before applying adhesive and also ensure that the adhesive has a clean

Installation onto Concrete Slab

The slab must be level, as the tile tray is designed to fall to the drain. 

The void area should be 400mm x 400mm around the outlet. 

Apply a continuous bead to the underside of the tray before applying adhesive and also ensure that the adhesive has a clean surface.

To check the level of the tray, apply downward pressure after installing the substrate.

Before commencing the installation of shower walls and tilings, it is necessary to test that water runs off to the waste outlet, performing this will ensure the drain system is working correctly. During installation, if an airlock occurs with the plumbing, it is necessary to use a plunger to remove the airlock.

Failure to follow this step will void the warranty.

From the centre of the tile tray outlet at least 1500 mm should be extended for waterproof membrane. To comply with the local standards the fall of the floor outside the tile tray must be towards the tile tray.

Outlet fitting instructions

  1. Outer tension ring needs to be removed from the assembly.
  2. The sealing ring should be between the outlet and the outlet hole after placing the outlet into the Aussie tile tray outlet hole.
  3. From the underside of the Aussie tile tray replace the tension ring along with screwing it in the clockwise direction.
  4. Use a spanner to tighten the tension ring and ensure not to over-tighten.
  5. Threaded outlets will be attached to the plumbing connections.
  6. Ensure the water tightness.

Waterproofing: 

A certified waterproofing technician is recommended to carry out the procedures.

 It is recommended to read the manufacturer’s recommendations when selecting the adhesive as some products differ on non-porous surfaces.

Tiling the Tray

It is recommended to read the manufacturer’s recommendations when selecting the adhesive

Avoid using Davco or Chemgrout products on the Aussie tray as they will void the warranty. 

The waterproofing and adhesive companies will provide the best advice regarding which adhesive to use.

A thorough clean is recommended when tilling your tray. Methylated spirits cleaner will ensure a perfect clean.

For good adhesion of primers and adhesives ensure light sand on the surface.

Epoxy adhesives are recommended for adhering tiles directly to the tray. Adhesives and waterproofing companies need to be advised when performing other methods of fixing tiles.

10 Year Warranty

Composite Materials Engineering Pty Ltd (“CME”) ABN 23 007 128 289 warrants that its products are free from defects caused by material or workmanship for a period of ten years from the date of purchase.  

CME will at its option, repair or replace any CME ENGINEERED Aussie TILE TRAY without charge if it is defective directly as a result of its manufacture by CME or the materials used in its manufacture by CME during the first 10 years after initial purchase. 

This warranty is subject to the conditions set out below:  

Conditions of Warranty 

  • This warranty does not cover any defect caused by acts of god, any natural occurrence, or any other act or circumstance beyond 

CME’s control. 

  • The CME product shall be installed in accordance with the installation guidelines supplied with the product. CME will not be liable for incorrect/defective installation work carried out by any individual, company or entity. 
  • Defects or failure of the product due to poor maintenance, misuse, vandalism, accidents, modification or alteration of the product as supplied by CME,  normal ‘wear and tear’.  The product can only be used for its intended purpose, including exposure to excessive heat and moisture. 
  • The CME product must not have been moved from its initial place of installation. 
  • Proof of purchase must be provided. 
  • This warranty is non-transferable and only applies to the original installation and purchaser. 
  • CME makes no claims that the product will conform to any federal, state or local laws or ordinances, regulations, codes or standards. 
  • This warranty is limited to the repair or replacement of any CME ENGINEERED Aussie TILE TRAY, covered by this warranty and does not include any field labour charges, freight charges or any consequential or economic loss, loss of profits, or damage, including those suffered through or resulting from defects, caused by faulty manufacture or faulty material. 
  • A replacement product may not be reasonably available from CME in the same shape, type or colour as the original CME ENGINEERED Aussie TILE TRAY covered by this warranty.  If a replacement product of the same shape, type or colour is not reasonably available, CME reserves the right to provide a replacement product of as close a shape, type and colour as is reasonably possible from CME.
